So I have to brag for a minute because I am very proud of my husband! Last year, Branch organized a faculty "talent" show--the money raised from ticket sales was donated in support of the Bulgarian charity, Protected Home. This non-profit was founded by one of our Board members; it is a home that seeks to help orphans who lose their public benefits at age 18. This basically means that in Bulgaria, it is my understanding that orphans--even if they lived in an orphanage for all 18 years of their lives--are "discharged" on their 18th birthday and given no support to start a life. You can imagine how incredibly hard this would be--and it is why many of these kids then become homeless and turn to drug use and prostitution. So Protected Home provides, not only food and shelter, but a training program where the residents are given skills to be successful in life and with a career.
Last year, Faculty Follies was a huge hit within our school community-- it was the first event of its kind I believe...so this year it got a lot more hype from the very start--which is why we gave it the catchy name "2.0!"
The show was a SUCCESS-- we sold out the 450 seat auditorium, and we made over 1600 Leva for Protected Homes!
Here are some of the highlights from "2.0":
The opening act was actually my brainchild--and sorry to say it is a bit of an inside joke...but basically one of our colleagues directs a group of students who like to act--and they have created a teen drama that "airs" like any show such as "Gossip Girl" or "90210"...but it is live and done at lunch. Silver Springs--its name has opening credits just like any TV show where the same song plays and the kids (in character) do the same movements, etc. So we did a parody of their opening song where we basically dressed as the students--which they loved! (Branch actually borrowed the clothes from one of his students--which is also pretty hilarious when you see how tight they are):
Silver Springs Opening Montague Parody
As you can imagine, the students were ready to have a great time after that Ah-mazing opening--but they weren't ready for this...If you are not familiar with Jon Lajoie (our students love him!) first watch this ridiculous video--you only need to watch about a minute:
I Can Dance!
Now watch Branch's parody (please note the spot-on jacket Jaime helped us find at a Bulgarian second hand store--again pure comedy!)Viewer's note--watch the kids high-fiving in the front row--again hilarious!:
Branch Can Dance!
Next up--the Dancing Divas-- a group of 9 teachers (yes I'm in there!!!) most of us making a repeat dance performance (but with new moves!) since we were smash hits last year:
Dancing Divas
But damn it all- the male faculty stole the show with "Okay Go!" which they appropriately Bulgariafied to: "Добре Go!"
Добре Go!
So enjoy the links because we certainly loved making fools out of ourselves for a good cause! And, as one ninth grader said to me the next day: "2.0 was AWESOME-- I can't wait until next year--wait I actually I have three more years!!!!" Haha--good luck future ACS faculty--and Branch, you really are amazing!
