Istanbul, Turkey - Tulips, The Flu, Car Shows, and Minarets

What can I say about our Easter holiday trip to Istanbul?  Well, Kate didn't have the best time holed up in the hotel room with a high fever; 2 of her 3 days were relegated to the bed and taking lots of medicine.  A final night in a great pizzeria, and a cool carpet or two, was all she has to show from her time there.  Spending my time between caring for Kate (despite her refusal to believe that I was effective in my role, I took very good care of her), and going out to see some of the sights, I was able to capture some of the details of Istanbul, details I had overlooked in my first visit to this great city.  So, there will be very few shots of the great Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, or the other treasures of Istanbul; you will find, however, numerous shots of the tulip festival blooming all throughout the city, the Chevy car show in the new city, and more.

Okay, this is the Blue Mosque, but I loved the Turkish flag in the foreground.

Colors exploded all over the city as Tulips were everywhere.
About 15 Chevy's parked in the main pedestrian thoroughfare of new Istanbul.

The Palace Tulips
A jazzy, more than decent street band jammin.

Magic Hour Tulips
Turkish women buying some grilled corn on the cob
Tulips and, yes, the Hagia Sophia
Hookah's awaiting the flame
Which one of these kids is doing his own thing?
Baklava right out of the oven.

More Turkish yummies.

Fire on the street.
The inner thoughts of a Tulip.
The Chevy madness, this time in pink.
Okay, just one shot from the Spice Bazaar, although leeches are not necessarily spices.

The colors of Turkish delight are wonderful; not so much the taste
An interesting display of nationalism - the Chevy and the Turkish flag

The band wondering where the hell this guy came from.

My favorite shot from the Spice Bazaar

This little boy anxiously awaits his candy treat, made to order.
Same car as above.

The old trolley in the new part of town.

More Turkish delight

I don't ever recall having sipped on pomegranate juice before - readily available on the streets of Istanbul.
They just kept coming.
